Switching on the Xmas lights

-

Rutherglen and Cambuslang’s very own winter wonderland is taking a step closer after South Lanarkshire Council announced details of this year’s Christmas lights switch-on.

First up will be Rutherglen on Saturday, December 1.

Fun for all the family will start at 2pm and continue until 4.30pm. Radio presenter Gina McKie will host the event which will be jam-packed with entertainment, games and giveaways in the run up to the highly-anticipated arrival of Santa.

The event’s special guests will be tribute act Little Mix Magic.

Adding to the atmosphere will be a funfair, performances from local dance and theatre groups, Christmas sing-alongs to some festive classics and then the appearance of Santa Claus himself. And a winter wonderland is guaranteed as the switching on of the lights will trigger a fall of snowflakes from the skies.

The next day it’s Cambuslang’s turn to enjoy the annual festivities.

Hard-working Gina will once again host the event, which will also run from 2pm to 4.30pm. The show will include music from special guests Ernest, a top notch covers band who perform a plethora of pop and rock hits.

There will also be a funfair, performances from local dance and theatre groups, a festive sing-a-long and, of course an appearance from Santa Claus, before once again, snow falls from the heavens.

Entry to both Christmas lights events is free.
