Exhibition marks World War I centenary

-

CamGlen Radio, having been recently funded by Heritage Lottery to deliver a project commemorating the centenary of World War One, is bringing pop-up exhibitions to the community.

Off the back of recent successful exhibitions which has seen hundreds of visitors in Rutherglen Town Hall and on Main Street, Cambuslang, the station is hosting its final event on Saturday from noon to 3pm in the Particip8 Community Hub.

The exhibition is about World War One and focuses on how it affected the people of Rutherglen and Cambuslang.

It is just one part of the Heritage Lottery Funded activities, with four radio programmes being developed for broadcast later this year.

They will consist of a series of specials exploring the First World War through local people and their families’stories.

They will cover a range of themes, including life in the trenches, life on the home front, the role women played in the First World War and the legacy left behind by the First World War.

For the exhibitions, CamGlen Radio has put on a display donated pictures and artefacts from local people with stories to share about their family in the First World War.

The exhibition also includes videos, featuring pictures donated from local people and interviews, which will also later be featured in the station’s upcoming radio programme and content created by local schools.

Some of the physical objects include a photograph of a First World War soldier in uniform, medals from a First World War veteran, a canteen belonging to a WW1 soldier and a detonated bombshell.

SSAFA have been supporting these events, explaining the role the charity played during the First World War and how it affected the people of Rutherglen and Cambuslang.

Camglen Radio’s final pop-up exhibition will be free and everyone is welcome to attend.
