News in brief from around the local churches
St Columbkille’s will hold a special social evening this Friday, November 9 to mark the centenary of the Great War ending.
There will be live entertainment, games, raffles and food. Tickets £5 for adults and children go free. The new minister at Flemington Hallside Church has officially been inducted at the parish.
The Rev Ian Cathcart is now leading the church. Flemington Hallside Church’s women’s guild meets every Wednesday at 7pm. The next monthly coffee morning at Rutherglen Old Parish Church will be held from 10am until noon this Saturday, November 10.
The proceeds will go to Erskine Hospital and everyone is welcome to come along to support this very worthwhile cause.
Entry costs £2.50 and includes tea/coffee and cakes.
Rutherglen Old Parish Church is open every Thursday between noon and 2pm for a period of reflection.
There is also the opportunity to enjoy fellowship over tea/ coffee and biscuits.
Anyone is welcome to take in their lunch. St Bride’s Parish Church are continuing with their Eat Up initiative, offering hot meals and company every Wednesday. It runs from noon until 2pm. Burnside Blairbeth Church hold Messy Church on the first Saturday of every month.
It starts with an hour of crafts and games, followed by a celebration with a Bible story and singing, finishing with a two-course meal and will run from 4.30pm to 6.30pm.
Children’s club Jump has restarted in the Blairbeth building on a Wednesday evening for children in P1-P7. It is from 6-7:30pm.
The church have recently launched their community Bible experience, offering a new way of looking at the text. Ask the church office for more details. Rutherglen’s Salvation Army has a host of events going on, including toddler groups.

It also hosts Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month, 11.30am -1.30pm. Entry £1.50. St Cadoc’s will hold a rags to riches collection for Mary’s Meals on December 1 and 2.
More details will be available nearer the time but parishioners are encouraged to consider if there are any items they might consider parting with. St Mark’s cuppa club meet every Tuesday morning. Castlemilk Parish Church hold community meals on the third Friday of the month. A knitting group has started up in Stonelaw Parish Church’s Meeting Place from 2.30pm till 4pm and all are welcome, regardless of experience.
The church’s Cafe @ The Meeting Place is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 12.30pm.
The church will also continue with their monthly 30 minute services, which take place on the first Wednesday of each month.
These are aimed at people who do not or cannot attend Sunday services.
Tea and coffee are available, along with home baking and a second-hand book stall. The church’s Tuesday Chat group meet every fortnight at 7.30pm. God Tock continues every Monday at 7pm at King’s Park Parish Church. The Fitness Follies keep fit group at Fernhill and Cathkin Church meets every Wednesday at 10.30am.
On Thursday at 10am the Knitting and Nattering group meets in the session room. Croftfoot Parish Church hold their Refresh classes every Friday from 2pm until 4pm.
It is a chance to enjoy a cuppa and a chat, as well as hand massage, games of pool, spiritual reading and confidential prayer, including healing. There is no cost. St Oswald’s Episcopal Church in King’s Park has Kaleidoscope for children with autism and their families from 6.30pm until 8pm on Monday.
On Tuesday there is community yoga, with entry costing £3 and lasting from 7pm until 8pm.
Wednesday sees prayer space at 10am.
On Thursday there is soup and space to be still from 6.30pm until 8pm. Rutherglen West and Wardlawhill Church’s friendship cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am until noon.
