Local ladies in the frame in new photography exhibition

Milestone marked

- Jonathan Geddes

A group of local women are definitely what you would call picture perfect.

The ladies were all snapped as part of an exhibition called Reflections On A Decade Of Regeneration: 12 women have their say, which looks back over 10 years of the Clyde Gateway project that aims to revitalise Rutherglen and Glasgow’s East End.

The group posed for individual black and white portraits and provided some thoughts on what the past ten years of regeneration activity by Clyde Gateway has meant for them.

Clare Ferry, Project Manager at Clyde Gateway said: “The suggestion for some sort of exhibition to mark ten years initially came from Rutherglen photographer, David Collie.

“We mulled over a few concepts but kept returning to the idea of very powerful images of women who have lived or worked in the area from well before Clyde Gateway became involved and also having the women provide their own captions. It proved to be a very successful venture, with everyone who volunteered to pose being thrilled with their individual photos and at being part of what will be a travelling exhibition going into the first half of 2019.

“From Clyde Gateway’s perspective, we’re delighted to have such fantastic endorsements of our regeneration work while also having the opportunity to work with and support a local business.”

The exhibition will be on display at the offices of Healthy’n’Happy at 18 Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen until December 14.

It will then show at four community locations in Rutherglen and the East End of Glasgow – Bridgeton Community Learning Campus, Rutherglen Library, the Legacy Hub, and Calton Heritage Centre – between January and April 2019.
