A Cambuslang tennis club have taken a step into the future after unveiling their new all weather courts.

Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club have been working on the Blaes to Glory programme for the past three years and the revamp delighted club members when recently unveiled.

As well as replacing the 103-year-old blaes courts, the project has delivered new floodlighting and fencing.

Club president Jacqueline Clark and the funding committee helped secure money from a range of organisations to fund the project which they hope will boost the local area.

The most recent funding was a £30,000 grant from Paterson’s quarries which will form the key work in completing the renovation project with boundary fencing replacement and disabled paths.

Jacqueline said: “We are delighted to have received this very generous award from Paterson quarries which will ensure that the site is accessible to all and that there are lower maintenance requirements on the grounds.

“Kirkhill is now looking fit for a new generation of tennis players and we look forward to welcoming them along to the club in our coaching programme as members, or in our new pay-to-play option which can be booked online.

“It’s a very exciting time for Kirkhill Lawn Tennis Club.”

The club intend to promote a range of free activities in conjunction with the new look, while they were visited by James Kelly MSP to mark the launch.

He said: “I am delighted to support the work of Kirkhill, which does excellent work in providing access to tennis for local people.

“The club’s new facilities are a real asset to the community.”
