St Cadoc’s are meal deal with charity day

- Jonathan Geddes

If you have any clothes lying around that you do not need, then St Cadoc’s Parish Church could use your help this weekend.

The Halfway church are to hold a Rags to Riches collection in aid of the Mary’s Meals charity.

This will require unwanted clothing, bedding, curtains and other items, all of which can be a big boost to the charity.

Parish Priest Fr Jose Cirilo Rodrigues explained: “This is the third time that we have done this at St Cadoc’s.

“We normally get a great turn out for it, because people want to do all they can to help out.

“What we are looking for is items that people no longer want, or think they can part with - clothes or bedding or even things like belts or shoes.

“That can make a big difference to Mary’s Meals.

“You are just hoping that people will come out and will do good things to help out.”

Mary’s Meals programmes work to bring about positive changes in the lives of children and their communities through reducing hunger, increasing school enrolment, improving attendance, concentration and learning, increasing progression between grades and improving health and wellbeing.

They also aim to bring about long term changes, such as encouraging community support for education, providing support for smallholder farmers and increasing government recognition of school feeding.

Mary’s Meals works in 17 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and the Caribbean, including India, Haiti, Ecuador, Malawi and Zambia.

According to Mary’s Meals, the Rags to Riches appeal can raise funds to help feed some of the world’s poorest children and ensure they receive an education, as three bags could generate enough money to feed a child in school for a year.

Visit www.marysmeals.org.uk for more information on their work and how to contribute, while anyone wishing to donate items can do so by stopping by the church on Saturday or Sunday, with the collection being taken away after Sunday’s Mass.
