Time running out for train station survey
Cambuslang residents have only three weeks left to comment on proposals, which, if agreed, would limit parking around the town’s railway station.
Put forward by South Lanarkshire Council, the consultation includes a plan to prevent non-residents from parking in streets near the Main Street station.
The survey - which also looks at parking around Hairmyres Train Station in East Kilbride - is part of a wider review into Residential Parking Permit Zones (RPPZs) across the whole of South Lanarkshire. The survey comes after years of campaigning for a dedicated park and ride facility for Cambuslang Train Station to meet ever increasing demand.
East Kilbride Central South councillor John Anderson admitted there are “significant issues”with parking in and around Cambuslang and Hairmyres stations as he invited residents to have their say.
The chairman of the council’s community and enterprise resources committee said:“We are aware that in many areas parking pressures continue to increase, which is the reason why we decided to review all RPPZs.
“We also recognise that there are significant issues with parking in and around both Hairmyres and Cambuslang railway stations.
“That is why I am encouraging as many people as possible who live in both these areas, or use them, to take part in the surveys.
“Your input into this process is invaluable and will help us to decide the best course of action moving forward.”
Responses to the survey will be analysed and a formal consultation will be launched should South Lanarkshire Council push forward with introducing RPPZs. Residents have until January 31 to comment on the proposals, which can be found on the council’s website.
