Inspectors from Education Scotland have heaped praise on Castlemilk High School for its young people’s ambition and aspiration to succeed in learning, work and life.

The glowing inspection and review report was published last week, following a visit to the school by Education Scotland in November last year, during which a team of inspectors talked to parents, carers and young people and worked closely with head teacher Lynn McPhillips and staff.

Their report highlighted a number of strengths in the school’s work, praising the “inspirational, dynamic leadership of the head teacher and key members of her team that result in a learning climate where all young people are valued and highly motivated to bring about a successful change.”

Inspectors found that “almost all young people enjoy a high quality, rounded experience which develops key capacities and important skills.”

During the inspection and review, the Education Scotland team noted improvements in young people’s attainment in various national qualifications, and highlighted the school’s work to improve equality and support all learners to achieve more highly.

The report goes on to praise the “impressive range of qualities and ambition demonstrated by young people”.

It says: “They have a great sense of pride in their school and a real aspiration to succeed in learning, work and life.”

The report also praised the impact of partnership working to support all young people “to achieve highly and enhance their experiences.”

Commenting on the report, head teacher Lynn McPhillips said: “I am delighted with the outcome of the HM Inspection for our young people who are very proud of their school, our exceptionally committed staff, our highly supportive parents, our dedicated partners and the Castlemilk community.

“I am particularly pleased with the recognition that our young people are ambitious and have a real aspiration to succeed in learning, life and work. The Castlemilk High School motto is ‘Nothing but the best will do’ and, as a school, we are looking forward to continuing our journey of continuous improvement to ensure equity and excellence for all our young people.”
