After years of yo-yo dieting, trying to lose weight certainly had its share of ups and downs for Rutherglen mum-of-two Emma Stuart.

Last January, Emma, 44, decided to confront her concerns and join the Slimming World group that meets in the Kings Park Hotel.

Emma, who weighed more than 12 stone when she joined the group, explained: “I was putting weight back on fast once more.

“I wanted to gain control before my weight became a problem again, so off I went to Aleksandra Lennon’s group.

“Losing weight each week and going down dress sizes was a massive incentive for me and kept me motivated.

“What I most love about food optimising is the fact that there is no weighing of food apart from the healthy extras. I just eat until I’m full and never go hungry.

“I eat a lot of salmon and veg but one of my favourite meals is spaghetti Bolognese.

“I eat a lot more of vegetables now, and actually have them with most of my meals. It’s just a way of life for me now, as I love it so much.”

Emma, who admits that giving up bread was the hardest thing, reached her target weight of 9st 7lb in November, dropping from a size 14 to a size 8/10.

“I have a lot more energy than I had before. I always walked which I enjoyed and still do, but wanted to jog,” she continued.

“Before losing weight, I was far too self conscious to do that. But now I have confidence to run outside as well as at the gym.

“I attend the gym three times a week and go to a fitness class also. I’ve never felt better.

“I try to attend the group every week, and even though I am at target, I still want to keep track of my weight. Being at the group has given me amazing ideas and recipes.

“I have a fantastic consultant Aleksandra who, along with the other group members, always encourage and support one another.”

Emma attends the Monday group at Kings Park Hotel at 9.30am and 11.30am.

Aleksandra also has a Thursday group at Cambuslang Baptist Church at 9.30am, 5.30pm and 7.30pm.
