Not only does Rutherglen businesswoman JacquelineTomlinson transform homes, she also transforms lives through her company’s tireless charity work.

The careers of Jacqueline and business partner Alan Bow – who founded home improvements company Reface 28 years ago – have taken an exciting new turn with the recent opening of their new Rutherglen soft furnishings and contemporary decor showroom, No5a.

The pair’s ethos and that of their team is to help people realise their dreams – but that doesn’t stop at delivering for their loyal customer base.

The Reface team starred on TV hit show, 60 Minute Makeover, when they supplied and fitted appliances for Calum’s Cabin – a respite retreat for children with cancer, dedicated to 12-year-old Calum Speirs.

Photographs of the fun the Reface team had taking part in‘It’s a Knockout’in aid of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice are on display in their showroom in Farmeloan Road.

Other charities they support include Contact the Elderly and Dogs Trust.

Reface was born when Jacqueline recognised a niche in the market for made-to-measure kitchen units and doors that would allow people to achieve their dream kitchen with ease and affordability. She said:“I enjoy seeing pictures of projects, seeing the difference we have made, accompanied by lovely reviews.

“Making people happy and proud of their homes is why we do what we do.”

Rutherglen’s accessibility, proximity to Glasgow and transport links make it the ideal location for the business.

The town also has a variety of suburban homes – perfect for a home enhancement business.

“We’re ambitious – full of ideas and big visions,” continued Jacqueline. “We had to learn not to expect too much in the beginning.

“You have to grow your business, start small, plant a seed and water it before anything grows.

“Hard work pays off. I had to roll up my sleeves. We’re constantly adapting according to trends, so we’re still learning and growing”

Her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is to be prepared for criticism and rejection, but work hard and be determined.

She also suggests researching your market and being resourceful and creative with advertising, networking and costs.

To help grow the new No5a interiors studio in Rutherglen’s Alleysbank Road, Jacqueline and Alan have been working with Skills Development Scotland to create jobs and introduce new, vibrant talent to the team.
