Boxer Gary’s future as pro
A promising Cambuslang boxer has taken a huge step towards the big time after signing his first professional contract.
Gary Ducie, 23, has signed on with Sam Kynoch’s Boxing Promotions Company, sealing the deal after a recent Kynoch boxing show in the Glasgow Crowne Plaza Hotel.
Gary, a member of O’Neils ABC, was thrilled when he was invited to join Kynoch’s growing stable of talented fighters.
He said:“I am absolutely buzzing. I met with Sam last Tuesday and signed the contract at the show.
“It’s all just happened so fast but I’m really excited to be turning pro.”
Gary had previously taken some time out from his boxing career but has come back with the same hunger and desire which first attracted him to the sport.
He added:“I couldn’t believe how much I missed being at the gym but it has been great being back. The club has grown over the past few years and there’s a great buzz about the place.
“The coaches here have helped me to achieve my dream and it’s great to be back working with them again.” Sam said:“I am looking forward to working with Gary.
“We will be keeping him busy this year before he looks to target titles.
“Gary is a multi-titled amateur and he will make his professional debut at our Paisley Lagoon Centre promotion on Saturday, April 6.”
Gary started boxing aged 10, joining O’Neils as the club moved to its current Westburn base.
He has had more than 50 fights as an amateur, winning three Western District titles as well as medals in Scottish championships and he has boxed on international duty for Scotland.
He will train under the supervision of O’Neils head coach Brian Murphy, who was delighted with Gary’s news.
He said:“Gary came to us when he was 10 and developed into a talented boxer. He took a little time out recently but has come back as sharp as ever.
“We will work on his fitness levels initially and build him up to competition level. We are really excited for him and have no doubt that he will do well in the pro ranks.”
