Gaelic football team return to Cambuslang

-

A Gaelic football team are to be based in Cambuslang.

Tir Conaill Harps, who previously played in the area’s Pearse Park until 2005, have agreed a partnership with Cambuslang Rugby Club and will play and train at Coat’s Park for the 2019 campaign.

The club, who celebrate their 25th year in 2019, have had various homes since leaving Pearse Park, and are hoping the new move will provide them with a degree of stability.

Club chairman Anton Gallagher said: “We are so pleased that after weeks of planning and meeting between ourselves and Cambuslang, we are in a position to announce our exciting news to everyone.

“Now that the agreement is in place we can get to work in setting up for the year ahead. Cambuslang Rugby Club have agreed to provide a pitch which we can extend to a GAA size and allow us to use the facilities as our own for training and matches for all age groups and teams within our great club. A special thanks to Gerry Shepherd for helping this deal happen.

“This is a massive step in the right direction for Tir Conaill Harps with the start of the three-year development plan in place and the start of our 25th anniversary year ahead.

“We have so many great things planned for this year and to have a base and a home will help the club continue to grow and develop as we want it to.

“We hope to see as many people as possible coming along to all of our games and showing support for the club as we face the challenges ahead.”

Fixtures for the club’s upcoming season will be announced in due course, and more information on Tir Conaill Harps can be found via their Facebook page.
