Rutherglen Reformer

Cops keen to trace this man

-

Police have released images of a man who may have information that can assist officers investigating a callous robbery on a pensioner that took place in Rutherglen just before Christmas.

At 4.20pm on Sunday, December 23, Margaret MacFarlane was at the corner of Stonelaw Road at Greenhill Road when she was robbed of her handbag.

The 88-year-old great gran was badly shaken by the incident, later telling the Reformer that she was sleeping with the lights on, had lost confidence, and became anxious after dark.

Her GP had prescribed her sleeping tablets and medication to help with her anxiety.

The man in the images is described as white, 5ft 8in, medium build with balding grey hair, wearing a blue polo shirt, navy bomber-style jacket, dark jeans and black trainers.

The handbag stolen contained a threefigure sum of money.

After the crime many in the local community rallied round to help Margaret.

Supporters and well-wishers donated £240 through a gofundme page, while offers of assistance came flooding in, from cash, to a new purse, chocolates, a hamper and even a personal alarm.

Anyone who recognises the man in the images is asked to contact Rutherglen Police Station via 101, quoting incident number 2814 of Sunday December 23 2018.

Alternatively, people can call CRIMESTOPPERS on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.
