Flat plan decision due today

-

A former car wash site in Cambuslang could soon be turned into flats for the elderly.

South Lanarkshire Council’s planning committee will today decide whether to approve the application by Wilson Developments and Rutherglen and Cambuslang Housing Association, for the site at Hamilton Road.

If approved, 18 flats would be built on the grounds, with the proposal having resulted in a single letter of complaint from neighbours.

The three storey block would have access adjacent to the existing residential properties at Robert Templeton Drive, with proposed parking spaces located to the rear of the flatted block and accessible from a new road within the site.

The site was originally a Texaco filling station, which was then decommissioned, and later became a car wash, which closed in 2013.

Previous applications for 14 flats then 21 flats at the site were approved, but both of those proposals subsequently fell through.

An objection was raised regarding the development overlooking the adjacent homes and potentially causing problems blocking light, as well as with issues relating to nature conservation, parking, road safety, traffic generation, noise, disturbance and odour.

However the council’s roads and transportation service raised no objections to those issues.

A final decision will be made today (Wednesday) at the planning committee meeting.
