Burnhill Action Group hosts a community hub everyThurs­day between 1pm and 5pm attheWest and Wardlawhil­l Parish Church. t oThe the Healthyn hub ishome Happy ParentCafé for parents, carers and children aged up to five years.

They come together to play, enjoy each other’s company over a cuppa and share hints and tips on topicssuch as weaning, baby first aid, sleeping and baby massage.

Jill Montgomery says thather two-year-old son, Archie, looks forward to their weekly visits.

“Archie loves coming here,”said Jill, 28, of Bankhead, who is expecting her second child in August.

“I’ve been bringing himhere since he was weeks old.

“It giveshim the opportunit­y to socialise with all the kids.

“I’ve made friends since coming here, too.

“It’s good to have wee groups like this.”

Fellow mum Margaret, 44, also attends regularly withher three-year-old son, Flynn.

“We’ve been coming here for over a year,”she explained.

“Flynn enjoysmixi­ng with theother kids.

Here residentsh­ave accessto RoutestoWo­rk South,who facilitate employment, further education and training opportunit­ies.

A representa­tive of the CitizensAd­vice Bureau also hosts an outreachse­ssion every week.

They offer support, informatio­n and advice to residents on welfare rights, household budgets, benefits and debtmanage­ment.

Staff can also provide food bank vouchersto people experienci­ng financial crisis. meets every Monday between 5.30pm and 7.30pm attheWest andWardlaw­hill Parish Church.

Thishub is a space for local parents, children and family membersto come together and spend quality time with each other.

They participat­e in a range of activities w h ic h are fun, interactiv­e and raise knowledge and awareness of a number of topicssuch ashome fire safety, Little Lifesavers emergency first aid training, healthy eating and fitness.

MumChloe McLean, of Burnhill, loves the way the hub gives her and her three sons – Christophe­r, nine, Kyle, six, and three-yearold M a s on – t i m e t o interact as a family.

“It letsme spend time with the kids,” said Chloe, 26.

“When you are in the house, the kids tend to go to their rooms and play with toys or computers.

“In here, it is structured, with differentt­hings each week, and kid s and adultshave to take parttogeth­er.” Healthyn Happy are working with local residentst­o create community food growing spaces at bothRuther­glen Universal Connection­s andWest and Wardlawhil­l Church.

Thecharity­is also working to createa community tool library for local residentst­o encourage gardening and outdoor activities.

Throughout­March and April 2019, Burnhill Action Group will be holding workshopst­hat focus on how to grow food, reducing and reusing waste products,as well as increase awareness around climate change and highlight the positive impacts of growing food in the local community.

The workshops are open to all Burnhill residents.
