Walk the MoonWalk for breast cancer

A breast cancer charity is encouragin­g people from Rutherglen and Cambuslang to show their love for walking and make a real difference to others.

Walk the Walk, which will take place in Edinburgh on June 8,isa great chance to put your best foot forward and fundraise for a great cause.

The breast cancer charity, famous for its trademark decorated bras, is urging women, men and young people to be part of the magical event in the capital.

With a fabulous circus theme, the 14th MoonWalk Scotland will see walkers winding their way past some of Edinburgh’s most iconic landmarks, including Edinburgh Castle, Arthur’s Seat, Calton Hill and StG iles Cathedral.

From clowns, to ringmaster­s, trapeze artists and all things ‘The Greatest Showman’, Walk the Walk is hoping people will let their imaginatio­ns go crazy asthey decorate their circus-inspired bras to wear atthe event.

Open to people aged 10 and over, Walkers can take on one of four challenges: The New Moon (6.55 miles), Half Moon (13.1 miles), Full Moon (26.2miles) or Over The Moon (52.4 miles).

More than 4,700 women and men in Scotland are diagnosed with breast cancer each year.

Over 85,000 people have taken part in The MoonWalk Scotland helping to raise more than £20.5 million to help improve the lives of people with cancer.

Walk the Walk is committed to providing funding to hospitals across Scotland and the rest of the UK to purchase Scalp Coolers (also known as Cold Caps), special machines which are helping many people undergoing chemothera­py to retain their hair.

The charity has funded 57 Scalp Coolers in 26 Scottish hospitals, including at Hairmyres Hospital.
