NIKI TENNANT Rutherglen’s over 60s are being invited to celebrate South Lanakshire’s first Activage Arts and Music Festival with various events at the town hall.

The festival, run by South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture from March 12 to March 23, aims to celebrate the arts as engaging and accessible for all.

There is a fabulous array of shows and events in venues throughout the area including music recitals, performances, stimulating exhibitions and an exciting range of participatory sessions giving people the chance to have a go at arts and crafts including watercolour painting, felt making and ceramics.

Events at Rutherglen Town Hall include: one man show Billy Bremner and Me, and a funding fair (both March 15); craft classes on March 18; water colour painting on March 19; the return of the regular tea dance with John Findlay on March 21; knitting and crochet classes with A Great Yarn, and comedy drama A Dose of Blushes (both March 22).

In Billy Bremner and Me comedian Phil Differ gives an autobiographical one man show, looking back at his school days and his dreams of football glory, while A Dose of Blushes is a comedy drama set in 1982, where three women, stuck in a waiting room, find themselves sorting out their own ‘government’.

It is based on real life stories by former patients and staff of Rutherglen Maternity.

In addition, fans of the silver screen can enjoy an exhibition of old Rutherglen cinemas at the town’s library on March 22.

If interested in the arts, organisers say this festival is for you.

Anyone with a South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture Activage Membership should look out for the special discounts throughout.

A festival brochure is available to download on the Activage pages of the SLL&C website http://www. slleisureandculture.co.uk/ or to pick up in venues.

Places are limited for most events so advance booking is advisable.

Book through the online Box office www.sllcboxoffice.co.uk, by telephone on 0141 613 5700 or in person at Rutherglen town hall.
