News in brief from around the local churches

St Columbkill­e’s will be hosting a world day of prayer on March 1.

The materials for 2019 have been prepared by women of Slovenia and the themes are of welcoming strangers, and the stories are of women surviving war, of women as refugees, and of Roma women experienci­ng acceptance and discrimina­tion.

This is very relevant to the experience­s of many refugees and asylum seekers in Scotland.

St Columbkill­e’s Parish Church will hold a race night on March 1, at 7pm.

A St Patrick’s Day celebratio­n will take place on March 15.

St Cadoc’s are holding a fundraisin­g curry night on March 22, between 7pm and 9pm.

All proceeds night will go towards reducing the cost of replacing the carpets in the Presbytery.

The next Messy Church at Fernhill and Cathkin Church will be held on March 16, from 3.45pm until 6pm.

The church will also be holding a Family Fun Day on Saturday, April 13, from 11am until 1pm. The Tuesday Tea Room is up and running and locals are welcome to drop in for a bacon or sausage filled roll with plenty of tea/coffee and good chat.

Eat Up takes place every week at St Bride’s between noon and 2pm, offering a hot meal and a chance for company.

The next Messy Church at Burnside Blairbeth Church will take place on Saturday, March 2 and it will be a pancake party.

It is a chance to come and eat pancakes with lots of toppings, drink tea and juice, and think about Lent.

The cafe @the meeting place at Stonelaw Parish Church is open Monday to Saturday from 10.30am until 12.30pm.

The church will also continue its monthly 30-minute services, on the first Wednesday of every month.

Rutherglen Baptist Community Church’s popular Messy Church is held on the last Saturday of every month. Messy Church takes place between 4pm and 6pm in the church building in Greenhill Road at the corner of Stonelaw Road, behind the shopping centre.

Each week Rutherglen Old Parish Church is open from noon until 2pm for Thoughtful Thursday, a short time to enjoy tea and chat, and availabili­ty of the sanctuary for some quiet time.

Folks are invited to bring along their lunch, and eat in the comfort of a warm friendly atmosphere.

Refresh classes take place every Friday at Croftfoot Parish Church from 2pm until 4pm.

It is a chance to enjoy a cuppa and a chat, as well as hand massage, games of pool, spiritual reading and confidenti­al prayer, including healing.

God Tock continues every Monday at 7pm at King’s Park Parish Church.

A prayer group meet there on Tuesday mornings and on Wednesday evenings.

The dementia cafe meet on the

T in the Croft takes place every Friday morning at Croftfoot Parish Church from 10am until noon.

It also hosts Lunch at the Croft on the first Friday of the month, 11.30am -1.30pm. Entry is £1.50.

Castlemilk Parish Church holds community meals on the third Friday of the month.

Rutherglen West and Wardlawhil­l Church’s friendship cafe runs every Tuesday from 10am until noon.

The church will hold a quiz night on March 15.

This is a relaxing evening with all participan­ts working in teams.

Questions are set for all ages, from five to 99.

Entry is £2 for adults and no charge for children, while there will be tea, coffee and a bite to eat included free of charge.
