Dropped points agony

-

QUEEN’S PARK ....................................... 1 CLYDE ....................................................... 1 Queen’s sub Euan East stunned Clyde by levelling with his first touch five minutes from time.

That left Bully Wee boss Danny Lennon raging at dropping another two points as their promotion push has slowed down.

David Goodwillie had opened the scoring four minutes earlier and it looked like game over as the match exploded into late life.

Clyde manager Danny Lennon said: “It’s definitely two points dropped and yet again we were unable to see a game out. I’m pleased with the number of chances we created although we should have scored more.

“We didn’t get the positive result that our football and opportunities deserved. We created many chances, but we only took one.”

Queen’s gaffer Mark Roberts said: “I’m delighted we kept going after losing a goal. We’re in no danger so it’s my job to keep the players motivated.”

In the first half a splendid save from Hart kept out McNiff, before Fitzpatrick sent the ball just wide.

The second half saw Roberts go close for the Spiders, before Hart made another excellent save this time from a Fitzpatrick header.

He could do nothing to stop Goodwillie in the 81st minute, with the striker, just back from a broken arm injury, making no mistake after a Rankin through ball.

However East popped up to stab home from six yards and level it up.

Goalscorer East added:“It was brilliant, the gaffer told me to just go on and get at them, to test their keeper and I managed to get a shot away.“

Clyde were then back in action last night, as they took on Stirling Albion in a match played after the Reformer went to press.

And Queen’s Park’s youth team have a massive game coming up on Sunday.

They play Celtic’s youth team in the semi-finals of the Scottish Youth Cup.

It will be played at Cappielow Park in Greenock with a kick off time of 2pm.

Entry is free.
