Glens warned to avoid banana skin

-

Glencairn boss Willie Harvey has warned his players to beware slipping up against basement battlers Larkhall Thistle on Saturday.

The Glens were inactive again last weekend, after rain washed away their game with Dalry Thistle.

And a friendly game on Monday night ended abruptly after a horrible injury suffered by Glens defender Ryan Kerr, where he dislocated his kneecap going into a tackle.

Now the Glens manager wants to ensure his side don’t slack off against the league’s basement side.

He said: “Larkhall are at the bottom of the table but they’ve won two and drawn one of their last games, so they actually have a bit of form at the moment. It also says a lot about the team that they are still putting that amount of effort in despite the season they’ve had, so we know it could be a banana skin for us if we take it easy.

“But I don’t think that will happen because the players are aware how important this is, and that we are now at the business end of the season. “We won’t take the game lightly.” Ryan Kerr’s dislocated kneecap will necessitate a reshuffle at the back.

The defender was injured during a friendly with Rob Roy, arranged after the Dalry fixture was called off.

The game was abandoned early in the second half after the injury and Willie added: “We’ve now lost two right backs because Kris Gebbie is injured as well. We’ve got Craig McGregor who can shift to right back and Stevie Kerr can come in at centre back, so we should still be strong at the back.”

Prior to the injury, Willie felt the Glens were playing well and added: “We lost a goal that was miles offside and then Callum McRobbie had scored a cracking goal for us.

“We were getting strong and looked good after a couple of weeks in cold storage and were moving the ball well, so there were positives in how we were playing.

“Originally we were going to have our season finished by the start of May but now we’ll have midweek games against Neilston and St Roch’s to fit in.

“We just hope the weather doesn’t get any worse and we can get a run of fixtures in.”
