Tuned in for fundraising

Pupils at Croftfoot Primary have just one day left to frantically fundraise in the school’s bid to become the West of Scotland’s charity champion in a radio challenge.
The school is among 10 across Glasgow and the west that have raised the most for Clyde 1’s Cash for Kids.
The competition closes at noon tomorrow (Thursday).
Youngsters, who have undertaken a variety of activities in recent weeks to generate as much money as possible for the appeal, will have to sweat it out until October 25 when they will be invited back to Clyde 1’s studios in Clydebank when the winners will be announced.
Hazel Ferguson, chair of the school’s Family Partnership, explained: “It is a blind competition, so we are unable to see how much the other schools have raised.
“We will also have a full school assembly on October 25 to announce our final total and the winners of our competition that we are running for the best fundraising idea.”
There will be additional £250 prizes up for grabs for the best use of social media, best teamwork, best creative fundraising, and best PR.
Each child who has participated will receive a certificate at the assembly.
Fundraising antics have included: a bucket shake at Glasgow Green and Toryglen football pitches; bag-packing at Asda Toryglen; sponsored flip-athon at Flip Out’; a Flip Out bungee run at the school; a P1 sponsored walk and picnic which raised £300; and the final of the Croftfoot’s Got Talent event.
On Friday, Harley’s bar was the venue for a family night, which included a photo booth, bouncy castle, candy cart, magician, band and DJ.
Everything, including the function hire, hot buffet and raffle prizes, was donated by Harely’s owners and other local businesses. Thanks also go to those, incuding local churches, who donated sweets for the candy cart.
Individual efforts include the uncle of a pupil who ran the Glasgow Half Marathon; fiveyear-old Hope Kelly’s two-mile wheelathon; a pupil’s cake sale; and a sponsored walk along the Forth Road Bridge.
In addition to raising vital funds for Cash for Kids, Croftfoot pupils and their parents have also held a coffee morning aid aid of Macmillan, and a collection for Castlemilk Food Bank.
