Couple’s thanks as son is found safe and well

-

Shopkeepers in Rutherglen are the latest to have fallen victim to a scam which sees one person distract them while an accomplice steals their personal belongings.

The thieves, who have specifically been targeting hairdressers and beauty salons in Glasgow and the surrounding towns, enquire about treatments before taking phones and other valuables kept at reception desks.

Three thefts were reportedly carried out at premises on Rutherglen Main Street last Thursday.

In one of the cases, two people – a foreign man and woman in their mid-20s – enquired about treatments and stole a mobile phone when staff were not looking.

The pair have reportedly been witnessed doing the same thing in other areas including Stepps and Paisley.

Police have urged all those with information on the thefts to contact them via 101. NIKI TENNANT

Cambuslang couple David and Kathy Lindsay have expressed their “eternal gratitude” to people at home and overseas who helped in the search for their son who vanished while on holiday with friends in Spain.

Jordan Dean Lindsay, aged 32, was reported missing on Sunday, October 12 while in Barcelona with a group of pals.

His disappearance caused a flurry of activity on social media after frantic dad David appealed for help in tracing Jordan on his Facebook page, stating the Metropolitan Police had launched a formal investigation as fears grew for his wellbeing.

As holidaymakers visiting resorts in the Barcelona area were urged to join the search for Jordan, David told the Reformer’s sister paper the Daily Record he was frantic with worry.

He said: “This is really out of character for Jordan.

“We really hope there is a simple explanation but we know he wouldn’t do this without letting someone know where he was.”

Last Wednesday, pal Gregg Wilson, who had remained in Spain to search for his missing friend, wrote: “Jordan has just been in touch. I’m getting his location and going to get him.”

Minutes later, he posted a picture of himself and Jordan in a pub, alongside the caption: “Found safe and well.”

Jordan’s dad David also took to Facebook to confirm his son had been found.

He posted: “Update. As far as we know he has made contact with Gregg Wilson. Don’t know where but at this moment I don’t give a f***.

“Thank you to everyone from everywhere for everything.”

Speaking this week of his relief, David told the Reformer: “Kathy and I are really glad he has resurfaced and healthy.

“We are eternally grateful to everyone who shared the posts and all the effort that many people went to by contacting friends and relations in Barcelona in an effort to find out his whereabouts, and for all the messages that they sent us.

“It really was very overwhelming. From Cambuslang, Italy, Vietnam, Vienna and USA to mention just a few. The power of social.”

It is unclear where Jordan – who lives in Streatham but is originally from Cambuslang – spent the four days after he vanished.

We are eternally grateful to everyone
