Give piece a chance this Sandwich Day

A Burnside eaterie will be on a roll this weekend as it celebrates National Sandwich Day.

Popular coffee and sandwich shop Jingers on Stonelaw Road will be buttering up customers with its signature sandwich from owner Jane Hynes’ native South Africa.

Jingers has been earning a crust since opening back in May, bringing to discerning Rutherglen diners takeaway tasties from around the world.

The cafe introduced the ‘roast in a roll’ concept – a mouthwatering hot sandwich which proved a hit among customers.

Now, experienced restaurateur Jane is inviting cafe culture lovers to get their gnashers around a boerewors roll – a South African take on a hot dog.

Boerewors sausages are made from coarsely ground beef which is typically combined with ground pork.

The natural fat content of the meat keeps it moist during the cooking process, and the unique taste and aroma of boerewors comes from the generous amount of coriander, nutmeg, cloves, all spice and black pepper used in their preparation.

Ahead of National Sandwich Day on Sunday, Jane and her team proved they’re a cut above by creating the best thing since sliced bread – a jumbo-sized sandwich stuffed with piping hot links of armoatic boerewors.

Jane is among catering businesses around the country who’re getting a ‘piece’ of National Sandwich Day action by celebrating the mighty sandwich and creating special fillings and tempting combinations.

Organisers want followers to join in the fun on Sunday by making every kind of sandwich imaginable, from a breakfast of bacon and egg on a bagel, to a BLT sourdough.

Or, if you’re feeling experimental, Sandwich Day is the best time to create something new.

* Congratulations to Rutherglen Reformer reader Elaine McIntyre of Fernbrae Avenue, who’s the winner of our recent competition in association with Jingers. She correctly identified koeksisters as the South African sticky donut treat served up at Jingers, and wins a South African takeaway for two.
