Helpful Halloween hints

Shoppers are being urged to try second hand first as they seek out ghoulish goodies to make it “all fright on the night” for Halloween.

Rutherglen’s R:evolve Recycle shop is getting into the spirit of the spooky season – and passers-by may have noticed homemade pumpkins, made with upcycled materials, sprouting up in its autumn window display.

R:evolve also has some great clothes to try that will inspire ‘Guysers’ to get creative.

“Rather than going out and buying a throwaway costume, come down and check what we’ve got in store that you could turn into something suitably sustainably spooky,” urged R:evolve employee, Victoria Johnsen.

“How about a white dress as a lab coat, perfect for Dr Frankenstein or maybe Dr Jekyll? Or maybe a black and white dress could be the start of a cops and robbers theme, or help turn you into Beetlejuice? There are always the classics, too. We’ve got plenty of leopard print if you fancy yourself as a cat, and black clothes galore, perfect for a witch or wizard.

“Whether it’s witches, ghosts, ghouls or superheroes, R:evolve Recycle’s second hand store on Main Street is packed in the run up to fright night with a range of pre-loved costumes.”

R:evolve Recycle also has racks of unique clothing that could be turned into a one-ofa-kind homemade costume, perfect for that fancy dress competition or big night out.

Buying Halloween goodies and accessories from Revolve is not only environmentally friendly, it also offers incredible savings while supporting a local social enterprise.

In addition, Catherine Bozec, consumer campaigns manager at Zero Waste Scotland, is urging shoppers to choose outfits that carry its Revolve quality standard certification.

She said: “Kitting out the whole family for Halloween can be a scary prospect, but buying your items from Revolve certified stores means you can save money and still have all the fun of putting an amazing costume together.

“By not buying new people are doing their bit to save the planet whilst supporting local organisations that make a positive social impact in the community.”

If you’re looking for something unique, or you’re feeling creative, R;evolve in Rutherglen has plenty of items to help you to put together your own ensemble.

Thousands of re-usable items needlessly end up in landfill in Scotland each year.

By choosing to buy from re-use stores like R:evolve Recycle, valuable products and materials can be repurposed and used for longer – saving money, supporting local communities, and protecting the environment in the process.
