Praise for Glens stalwart captain Tony

-

Glencairn manager Willie Harvey has praised club captain Tony Fraser after the skipper notched up another milestone for the club.

Fraser’s appearance in Saturday’s win over Islavale was his 275th appearance for the club, and came just three days after he turned 39.

Having missed several games due to injury, his return to fitness was a welcome boost for the team.

Harvey said:“Tony has been a great servant for the club, and although he is moving into the next stage of his career and doing coaching, he is still an important player for us.

“The most important thing is that he came though it on Saturday and was feeling good afterwards.

“His leadership qualities on the park have been missed for us - yes, you have us shouting from the sidelines but you need someone like Tony on the pitch.”

The Glens injury bug continued on Saturday, with Terry Hewitt suffering a back injury in warm ups but playing through the pain barrier, while Kyle Chrystal was hit in the ribs early on, which forced him off at half time.

But there is some respite for the club, with several long term absentees nearing a return.

“Both Jordan Layden and Rhys Donaldson are getting close to coming back, they could be back within a couple of weeks.

“Jay McKay is a little further away. We had Kyle back in training on Monday, so we’re hoping the ribs are just bruised after the weekend’s game and that it was nothing more serious.

“Terry is away on holiday this week anyway, we knew that before he signed from Bo’ness, so he will have some extra time to recover as well.”

The Glens play Cumnock this weekend in the West Region Premiership at the Celsius Stadium, with kick off for the match at 2pm.

Tickets are £6 for adults, £3 for concessions, and entry for children on the day is free.
