Mason Hill fundraising success means so much

East Kilbride hard-rockers Mason Hill are getting ready to record their debut album after a very successful fundraiser.

Consisting of Scott Taylor (Lead Vocals), James Bird (Lead Guitar), Marc Montgomery (Guitar), Matthew Ward (Bass Guitar), and Craig McFetridge (Drums), the band set a kickstarter goal of £8000 to be able to fund their debut record.

But thanks to generous donors and fans, they walked away with a whopping £16,000, double their initial target.

Matthew told The Ticket: “A lot of the money raised will be used for the album, but there’s now so many more opportunities.

“We can use it on a tour and fund the music videos as well. We are really grateful for the amount raised by our fans.

“We need this album out now more than ever. We have been playing the same four song EP for years, so we have to freshen up the live show.”

In order to entice people to donate, the band let people choose from a whole range of reward packages.

This included simple things like an album pre order, T -shirts to the more extreme, such as getting two tickets to any two Mason Hill gigs a year for as long as the band is still together and a private gig in your home.

Matthew said: “We put the high end ones up not expecting them to sell at all. They sold quite quickly and weren’t cheap, so we were blown away by the dedication of our fans.”

The band hope to get the new album, titled ‘Against The Wall’ out by May time and they have already started recording in Riverside Studios, Busby.

“We hope to get the recording done soon and then the album is sent over to New York to be mixed. We will pretty much be in the studio all of this month.”

Matthew hopes this album can take Mason Hill to bigger and better places, after what he described as a “quiet 2019”.

“At the end of last year we decided to get some new management and go our own way.

“I want this album to take us places we can only dream of. I want to break into America and go on a tour of Europe. It is ambitious, but it would be amazing.

“Our music is reminiscent of Shinedown and bands like that so in terms of people in America liking the music, I think we are pretty much sorted.”

“Going into 2020, we have loads lined up. Obviously the album will be out, but we also will be playing loads of gigs and have some amazing support slots lined up that we can’t wait to announce.”

The five piece will be hitting up Dreadnought in Bathgate on January 3 next year and tickets are on sale now.
