Sophia’s cock-a-Hoop to be part of Celtic choir
A nine-year-old Cambuslang girl has sung her way into the latest Celtic Christmas advert that’s gone viral with more than a million views.
James Aiton Primary pupil Sophia Gerrard was one of 16 students from the Glasgowbased UK Theatre School who successfully auditioned to become a part of the children’s choir featuring on the club’s newly-released charity single – a re-worded version of the festive song, ‘We Three Kings.’
Sophia was kitted out in a Celtic strip as she and her fellow students sang under the direction of ‘choirmaster’ – Hoops boss Neil Lennon.
The group spent the day at Glasgow’s Mitchell Theatre filming their part in the video which is part of Celtic’s annual fundraising initiative which this year will help local families who are facing poverty at Christmas.
The appeal will also support a number of initiatives working with refugee families who have come to Scotland, as well as assisting groups including Glasgow Children’s Hospital
Charity and Spirit Aid.
Sophia described her Celtic advert filming day as ‘brilliant fun’ and added: “It was so exciting to be part of this amazing advert. We were there all day but it went in so fast as we had so much fun.”
Sophia’s dad, Christopher, said: “Sophia had an amazing day. It was so well organised and the team and the manager were fantastic. This is all great experience for Sophia and it was an added bonus to learn that the single will be raising funds for some great causes.”
UKTS principal Lizanne Lambie Thomson said: “For Sophia and our other students this was a great opportunity to see how a major full-scale music advert is produced.
“This past year has been one of our busiest ever for our castings agency and already there are students signed up for some big productions which will be hitting the screens in 2020.”
