Rutherglen pet lovers are feline good thanks to the opening of a new charity shop.
Cats Protection proved the purrfect addition to the Main Street and will sell a variety of donated and new goods.
The shop was officially opened by Rutherglen Central and North councillor, Janine Calikes, who dressed appropriately for the occasion in a cat design dress.
And shop staff are now calling on residents to help out the good cause.
Manager Kate Lamont said: “The shop would very much appreciate donations and clean second-hand goods.
“In addition, we would love to hear from anyone willing to volunteer their time to help run the shop.
“Funds raised by the shop will help cats in the charity’s care, neutering and providing education, so we hope people see us as a cause worth supporting.”
Councillor Calikes is hoping the new store will benefit from the
Christmas spirit of locals.
She added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Cats Protection to Rutherglen and officially open their new Main Street store.
“As a cat owner myself, I really admire their charitable work in supporting cats and kittens.
“With Christmas fastapproaching, I recommend giving them a visit to see what they have for sale.”
Cats Protection was intially founded as the Cats Protection League in 1927, and has several simple and clear objectives aimed at helping cats.
These include finding good homes for cats in need, supporting and encouraging the neutering of cats, and improving people’s understanding of cats and how to care for them.
Anyone wishing to donate goods or wanting more information on volunteering at the shop should call Kate or Megan, (Cats Protections’ shop manager and assistant shop manager) on 0141 643 0379.
Cats Protection’s national network of branches and shops helps around 200,000 cats and kittens each year.
