Festive fun at Stonelaw High
NIKI TENNANT
Primary 7 pupils who will next year make the transition to Stonelaw High School were VIP guests, along with their families, at a school Christmas market last week.
Stonelaw Parent Council, in partnership with teachers and pupils, extended a special invitation to the P7s and their relatives to Thursday’s festive market.
The P7s and their families received the VIP invitations when they attended an open evening on Wednesday to introduce them to the school where they will become S1s in August – and they were delighted to pop along.
The Christmas spirit was in full swing at the school and there was a good variety of stall holders including Burnside Crafts, DnA toys, Frames By Steph and Sweetie Delights, as well as home baking, baby boutique clothing, homemade Christmas cards and decorations, a Fairtrade stall hosted by pupils and raffle tables.
This year, organisers offered more food from the cafe, which was well received, and the organisers were delighted that the event drew an even bigger crowd than last year.
Sharon Collie, chair of the Parent
Council, spoke to stall holders who said that they did a roaring trade.
Clare West from Clare’s Handmade Delights, enjoyed taking part and said: “There was a great atmosphere in the hall and definitely more footfall than the previous year.”
Jan Robertson, from Rutherglen Calendars – who was kindly donating half her sales to Poppy Scotland – commented: “The market was a great success and I’m already looking forward to next year’s market.”
Another generous stall holder, Craftycat, was selling handmade Christmas bags, boxes and knickknacks, with her proceeds going to Scottish Children with Heart Disorders and Social Bite Glasgow.
Stonelaw Market stall holders and visitors all commented on the fabulous entertainment provided by Jean Millar and the choir, with Graham Downie accompanying them on the piano.
It was a great success and I’m already looking forward to next year’s market
