Christmas break-in warning
Would-be robbers attempted to break into a number of houses in Rutherglen and Cambuslang at the weekend.
Several reports of males trying to gain entry to properties and vehicles have caused police to issue a warning to residents to ensure their property and belongings are secure.
McArthur Wynd, Bruce Avenue and Wallace Wynd were all areas targeted by groups of men wearing dark clothing.
One concerned resident told the Reformer the raiders are after Christmas presents.
He said: “They are targeting people at this time of year because they have more highvalue items than normal in their houses – and they are usually sitting under the Christmas tree in plain sight.
“It’s a shame that it’s come to this but people really need to be so careful now with what they have on display and where their house and car keys are kept.
“You can’t be too careful, you can’t give these guys any opportunities.”
Inspector Stephen McManus said: “We are aware of the reports of housebreakings and suspicious persons occurring in Cambuslang and Rutherglen and we undertake focused patrols particularly during the night with a view to detecting offenders and providing a visible deterrent.
“These crimes can be very traumatic for the persons involved, particularly during the festive season.
“Given that the perpetrators are known to target different areas I would ask that you are considerate of your own home security.
“Check your windows and doors are locked before going to bed, take your house and car keys upstairs and consider the use of deterrents such as PIR lighting, private CCTV or the new doorbell cameras.
“If you witness any suspicious vehicles, persons or activity then please report them by working together we keep our communities safer.”
