Cafe team to serve up Christmas wrapping
The kind-hearted team at a Castlemilk cafe will dish up some festive food for the homeless.
Staff from Cafe DM, on Drakemire Drive will head into Glasgow this weekend armed with Christmas dinner wraps, soup, tea and coffee.
They have also collected hats, gloves and warm clothes, and will be handing all the items out to the needy.
One of the cafe’s owners, Chris Paton, was inspired to help out after all the support the fledging cafe has received since launching earlier this year.
He explained: “We’re just a small business and it has been madness since we started up.
“So many people have helped us out as part of that, and we started to think it’s good to give some of that kindness back, especially at Christmas.
“We wanted to do something to support the whole community and it’s a hard time for a lot of people at the moment, so doing something to help out seemed a good idea.
“We are lucky enough to be going home to a warm house but others aren’t so lucky.”
That was when Chris, business partner Peter and other staff at the cafe decided to create a special wrap.
Despite requests from some locals o sell the snack, the tasty treat is only being created to be handed out.
Chris added: “We thought ‘let’s be different’ and doing a wrap seemed the best idea.
“We are quite active on social media, so it seemed a good way of raising awareness too, and encouraging other people to try and help out too, even a little bit.
“Everyone here is excited to help out - the chefs have been buzzing to create something and help get food to people who really need it.”
Around 10 to 15 volunteers will make the trip, which is expected to be on Sunday afternoon.
The cafe are also hoping to work with the Simon Community charity, who help the homeless.
Anyone wishing to support Cafe DM with any clothes donations should drop the items off at the cafe before 3pm this Sunday.
