MSP blasts council for flooding failure
Solution must be a priority

An MSP has slammed South Lanarkshire Council for “failing” Halfway residents on flooding issues.
James Kelly MSP has written to the local authority to demand that the ongoing flooding problems on Gilbertfield Road are dealt with as a priority.
He hit out after we reported how the council had failed to deliver a medium-term solution to the frequent flooding issues faced by residents.
In August, council chiefs claimed that a solution could be in place within 10 weeks.
And following recent rain, the Cambuslang road was once again badly flooded and impassable in places.
Glasgow list MSP Mr Kelly said: “It is ridiculous that we have reached another winter and the council have still not dealt with this issue. I have raised this time and time again, along with residents and the Reformer, yet the council are still to deliver on their promise to find a solution.
“It is no longer a mild inconvenience when flooding happens, instead, it is a regular reality that is making people who need to use the road miserable.
“Gilbertfield Road is now the main entranceway to a housing estate, as well as serving as the main route from Blantyre and Halfway in to Cambuslang and yet often it is entirely shut off because of the flooding issue.
“The council must do all they can this winter to limit the inconvenience for residents and take immediate action to implement the solutions they had promised in the new year.”
