Tasty Greek fare is finger-licking good
Home-cooked chicken dish is a hit with pupils

The flavours of the Mediterranean arrived in a Rutherglen school dinner hall recently when Greece was the port of call in its multi-cultural tour of world cookery.
Mum Lindsay Polydorou and other parent volunteers were on hand this time around at St Columbkille’s
Primary School to serve up Greek lemon chicken and potatoes.
Lindsay explained to pupils from various classes how the chicken was half poached, half roasted, prepared with lemon, garlic and olive oil, and flavoured with Greek oregano sent over by the Polydorous’ family.
The dish was accompanied by a side of broccoli with garlic and lemon – which proved to be a firm favourite with head teacher, Andrew
Gray. “We got great feedback. Most of the kids loved it and were asking for more,” said Lindsay, whose own children Anthony, 9, and six-year-old Anastacia attend St Columbkille’s Primary.
“We had one little boy who came up, as proud as punch, to say that he’d had 10 helpings of it.
“Some children said that they found it slightly too lemon-y. You will always get the truth from them!”
Lindsay said Anthony and Anastacia were also filled with pride when their mum’s dish – which is a family favourite in their house – went down a treat among fellow pupils.
The multi-cultural kitchen events have been a huge success since their launch at St Columbkille’s more than a year ago.
The next cookery session will be on January 31, when kids will get to sample Finnish cuisine.
