Chat show host and comedian Alan Carr paid tribute to a Rutherglen Slimming World consultant when he met her at the organisation’s glittering annual awards ceremony.

Linda Parrott, who runs the Slimming World group at The Montford Bar Function Suite every Thursday, was delighted to get a chance to meet Chatty Man Alan, and said that it was the perfect end to a fantastic year for the Kings Park group.

Alan, who presented comedy chat show Chatty Man on Channel 4, cohosted the annual Slimming World Awards with founder and chairwoman Margaret Miles-Bramwell OBE.

Margaret opened her first group in 1969 and over the last 50 years Slimming World has supported almost one million slimmers.

For Linda, meeting the TV funnyman was the highlight of a memorable event to mark Slimming World’s 50th birthday.

She told the Reformer: “Alan Carr was taller than I expected. He was lovely and welcoming. He did about 20 minutes or so of a great, hilarious stand up. He had the whole room in fits of laughter – so much so, you were missing the next joke.

“Then, the band Scouting for Girls put on a performance which was full of their hit songs and everyone really enjoyed it. The night ended with a disco.”

Alan said it was great to meet Linda at the event at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre.

He said: “I met so many people who had transformed their lives and it was clear how much the support they received from their ‘Slimming World family’ meant to them.

“Every one of them spoke passionately about how they couldn’t have made those changes to eat more healthily and become more active without the support of consultants like Linda and their group every week. I left the awards feeling so uplifted and positive.

“I wish I could have bottled that Slimming World feeling.”

Linda says members at the Kings Park group make her burst with pride.

She explained: “Not only have they seen big changes on the scales, many have improved their health and completely changed their lives too.

“For many people, taking that first step into a Slimming World group takes a huge amount of courage. But they’re always certain of a warm welcome.

“And when you join a group and stay each week, members support each other with motivation, tips and ideas, cheering each other on and boosting each other to face any challenges.

“Watching people grow in confidence each week and take on things that they didn’t think possible before losing weight absolutely amazes me.

“I feel proud of the small part I play in supporting people to achieve their dreams and to celebrate alongside them when they do, so I was honoured to represent the Kings Park group at the Slimming World Awards.

“Alan was left in awe of the difference Slimming World makes to people’s lives too.”

From this week, Linda will be running two groups in Cambuslang at The Sun Inn on Tuesdays from 3.30pm, 5.30pm and 7.30pm and on Wednesdays at 9.30am and 11.30am.
