FANS PICK THEIR TEAM OF THE DECADE

-

We asked fans from across Lanarkshire to vote for the best players from the past decade from our local sides. Here is how you voted:

GOALKEEPER: DARREN RANDOLPH

In his first season he broke John Ruddy’s clean sheet record of 15 and reached the Scottish Cup final in 2011. He was a between the sticks as Welll made their Champions League debut.

LEFT-BACK: STEPHEN HAMMELL

An absolute stalwart at Motherwell, played for them between 1999-06, moved to Southend for two years and back to Fir Park in 2008 where he stayed for the next 10 years.

RIGHT-BACK: SCOTT STEVENSON

From playing Celtic in the Scottish Cup, surpassing Ajax’s world record for consecutive wins and winning the league in 2017, to play-off pain in Cowdenbeath, a final day collapse in the 2018 league campaign and the Cove Rangers play-off exit - it has been a proverbial rollercoaster for the full-back at East Kilbride.

CENTRE-BACK: SEAN CRIGHTON

In his second spell at Airdrie Crighton has earned over 100 appearances for the club and is current Diamonds captain.

CENTRE-BACK: MARK MCLAUGHLIN

McLaughlin stayed with Accies until 2012, making more than 190 appearances, and he was part of the team that won the First Division title in 2007-08. He would then return to the Bully Wee and push for League Two play-off promotion in the 2015-16 season.

LEFT-MIDFIELD: MARVIN JOHNSON

After helping Motherwell to a 3-1 win against Rangers at Ibrox he would score in the 3-0 win in Lanarkshire to secure safety.

RIGHT-MIDFIELD: DAVID TEMPLETON

Widely recognised by Accies fans as the player who kept them in the Premiership in season 2017-18, he scored nine goals in 30 appearances, including in a 2-0 win over former club Rangers at Ibrox.

CENTRE-MIDFIELD:SCOTTCHAPLAIN

Having been the first player inducted into the Albion Rovers Hall of Fame, he enjoyed three spells at Cliftonhill scored 60 goals in the process. With a League Two promotion under his belt, Chaplain is probably best remembered for his hattrick in the 7-2 two demolition of Airdrie.

CENTRE-MIDFIELD: JAMES MCARTHUR

James broke into the Hamilton Accies first-team under Billy Reid in 2005, aged 18. He moved to Wigan, with McArthur moving in 2010, and they both won the 2013 FA Cup with a shock 1-0 win over Man City.

STRIKER: LOUIS MOULT

He was the key man who helped the side reach the final of the League Cup. His lob at Hampden against Rangers cemented him as a fan favourite.

STRIKER: ROSS MCNEIL

First catching the eye at Cliftonhill, McNeil would become a prolific poacher for Kilby on his way to winning two Lowland league titles at K-Park.

In 2017/18 scored more than 20 goals. Currently captain at Caledonian Braves.

There was some close calls. Here is the players who were just a couple of percent away from making the starting eleven.

SUB: MATT MCGINLEY (EAST KILBRIDE)

A two-time Lowland League winner with East Kilbride, it’s been a decade to remember for the 30-year-old keeper.

SUB: DECLAN GALLAGHER (CLYDE/

MOTHERWELL)

Starting the decade at Clyde, it has been a huge decade for the defender ending in Scotland caps and top flight football.

SUB: ALAN TROUTEN (AIRDRIE/ ROVERS)

Having started the decade at the Diamonds, Alan Trouten would make

his mark on Lanarkshire at Cliftonhill in the 2017-18 season. The 34-year-old netted 28 times.

SUB: ALI CRAWFORD (HAMILTON ACC.)

Part of the 2013-14 promotion-winning team, Crawford scored a winner at Celtic Park in October 2014 and earned Hamilton a draw at Ibrox in 2016.
