A Trinity High School pupil has tasted success after winning a cookery contest.

Now, fifth year student Jodie Cochrane has the chance to prove she is the meal deal thanks to training with a top cook.

Jodie was one of two Trinity pupils taking part in the Springboard future chef competition, held at the City of Glasgow College, with third year pupil Cara Dyer also tickling tastebuds.

The two girls spent hours beforehand perfecting their twocourse meal, writing up time plans, nutritional statements and calculating their costings before cooking.

Jodie made haggis, neeps and tatties with a whisky sauce, followed by a stacked raspberry shortcake with raspberry sorbet, while Cara whipped up parma ham wrapped in chicken with a creamy mustard sauce and served with potato puree and aspargus, followed by white chocolate and lime cheesecake surprise, which were then presented to the judges, who voted Jodie the Glasgow winner.

She will now work with a mentor chef, Zoltan Szabo, who is the executive chef at the Central Hotel, while preparing for her next challenge - the Central and Southern Scottish final next month.

Teacher Clare Cocozza said: “Both girls did a fabulous job. We were all told that the standard was so high this year and that the judges were really struggling to whittle the winner down from a final five, hence the long time for judging.

“When they announced Jodie as the winner the excitement was overwhelming and I let out a big cheer!

“Jodie was shocked and to be fair, I think she still is, but her immense practical and organisational skills, her calmness, and her disciplined and confident manner wowed the judges – not to mention the fact that her raspberry sorbet was amazing and in the words of one of the chefs ‘I knew from watching her that I just had to mentor her’.

“We are absolutely delighted to have Zoltan on board who will no doubt be a huge inspiration to her, and the whole school are behind her for the final next month.”
