KEEPER SPOT-ON AS SPIDERS TAKE POINT

-

Queen’s Park goalkeeper Willie Muir was the hero for the Spiders after his dramatic late penalty save secured the Hampden side a point.

Second-half goals from David Galt and Salim Kouider-Aissa cancelled out Declan Byrne and Ouzy See’s first-half strikes for Rovers, who had Aron Lynas sent off before Byrne missed the late spot kick.

Spiders boss Ray McKinnon said: “I was really disappointed at half time. We caused all our own problems.

“We were half a yard off it and we constantly gave the ball away.

“But we had a good chat at half time, made changes and got the rewards out of that, so we will take the positives out of that.”

Rovers took an early lead when a Queen’s free-kick was cleared, leading to an Albion break down the left.

Byrne outmuscled Lidouren to drive into the box and send a low shot past Muir.

Galt had a shot that nipped wide and then in 23 minutes Goodfellow produced a wonderful one-handed block to send a Moore rocket over the bar as Queen’s pushed for a leveller.

But all their efforts were undone when they fell asleep in 29 minutes as the visitors went 2-0 up.

An Albion throw-in under the main stand was somehow allowed to sneak through to the unmarked See, who burst into the box and drove a shot under Muir.

In the second half the Spiders fought back, starting in the 50th minute when Salim slipped a pass to the overlapping MacLean, who delivered a perfect ball for Galt to tap-in at the far post.

And when Moore was dragged down by Lynas, Kouider-Aissa fired home the spot kick. Lynas saw his day go from bad to worse when he was given a second yellow card with six minutes left.

But it was Rovers who had the chance to win it late on when Davidson’s silly barge gave away a penalty, only for Muir to rescue a point when he saved Byrne’s effort.

Meanwhile, The Spiders have taken advantage of their recent change in status to make some mid season signings.

Experienced centre-half Peter Grant has signed up from Morton, and versatile midfielder/winger Ross MacLean has joined the ranks from Falkirk, in addition to young loan centre-half prospect Jake Davidson, from Dundee United.
