South Lanarkshire parents whose child is due to attend nursery after the summer are being urged to register for a place now.

From August 2020, a total of 1140 hours nursery will be available to all three to four-year-olds in South Lanarkshire.

The deadline for applications to start nursery in August of this year is Friday, February 28.

South Lanarkshire Council’s chair of education, Cambuslang East councillor Katy Loudon said: “Nursery can play an important role in helping children build the solid foundations on which to base their education as they go on through life.

“It is also great for social skills and lots of fun and, with funded places for 1140 hours now available for all three to four-year olds, I would encourage all families to consider enrolling their young ones for early years education.”

Children who are aged three between March 1 and August 31 are eligible for the 1140 hours funded place starting from August 13 2020.

The Scottish Government provides funded early learning and childcare places for all three and four-year olds and eligible twoyear-olds.

These places are provided through the council’s nurseries and through funded partnership providers in the private and voluntary sectors.

If your child’s birthday falls between September and February 2021, you can access a funded place from the Monday following their third birthday.

There is a nursery A-Z and area lists for details of both council and funded provider nurseries and childminders.

The Locate It mapping service can also be used to find information on local nurseries by using your postcode or address. The plus and minus signs on the top left of the screen can be used to see the council-run nurseries and funded providers.

Application forms are available from all council and funded provider nurseries and those applying should indicate a second and third choice too. Offer of place letters for August 2020 will be posted to parents in May.
