Young: We can still grab play-off

-

Darren Young says East Fife’s Ladbrokes League One play-off hopes are still in their own hands, despite losing 1-0 at Airdrie on Saturday.

Dale Carrick’s 16th-minute strike was enough to keep the points in North Lanarkshire but Cambuslang man Young says there is still a lot to play for.

“At the end of the day it’s three points lost, there are another 24 to play for, so we look forward to that,”said the former Cathkin High pupil.

“Nothing has changed for us, this isn’t going to make or break our season.

“It could have helped to get an extra three points or a point, but we’ve got a lot of games coming up and once you get down to the nitty gritty of the last wee bit of the season... it’s still in our hands.

“If we win on Saturday against Montrose we can stay in that position.

“There are still 24 points to play for, but the way it’s looking there are four teams there in a top five, and then you have teams below you, so it’s about what we do.

“At the end of the day you don’t need to worry about other teams.

“If we stick to what we’re doing and we can play the way we can, we will hopefully get the right result.”

Young felt that East Fife deserved to take something from the clash at New Broomfield, but said Airdrie defended well. He added:“We were the team on the ascendency, we put the pressure on and they defended well.

“We had a couple of opportunities, but in the majority it’s that final ball in that final third that has let us down, and that wee bit of quality to break them down.”
