family who loved her designs to give baking a go as a career.

And she was understandably delighted to win the prize, with her cakes inspired by woodland myths.

As well as her showpiece creation, Maga also made a ‘tasting’ cake while there, with each contestant given several hours to come up with a new design on the day that was then served up to a 15-strong judging panel.

The last category saw each contestant create a decorative element to match their show cake.

Magda’s multi-layered tasting cake featured white chocolate and hazelnut praline, “forest moss” sponge made with spinach, a forest fruits mousse, fruit jelly, raspberry mousse and a chocolate sponge with hazelnut, all covered with dark chocolate glaze and decorated with chocolate and fruits.

Magda said: “I wasn’t expecting this at all.Folk from all over Europe go in for it, with the top 12 then asked to take part in the competition itself.

“I was really happy with the tasting cake. They score it on the flavour and the combination of textures and the judges really liked it.

“It was a great experience – I learned a few techniques and there was a good atmosphere the whole time I was there – some of the other designs were fantastic.”

The mum-of-two made her first cake for her daughter’s first birthday, and admits it did not according to plan.

Magda added: “It was a total disaster so I really prepared the next year and it turned out nicely.

“Everyone kept saying I should try it as a career – so I did!”

The most stressful part was getting the cake there
