Carers reminded of difference they make

Care experienced people in South Lanarkshire were reminded how much they are loved and valued during the recent Annual Care Day.
The day provided an opportunity for South Lanarkshire Council to celebrate their care experienced family, and to emphasise that their voices continue to make a difference on a daily basis.
Deputy Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, Councillor Maureen Chalmers, said: “As corporate parents, we are committed to providing a level of care which is consistent across the board.
“We are extremely proud of all of our young people and the theme of this year’s Care Day was ‘Reimagining.’
“This means we are encouraging the care experienced community and their supporters to reimagine how Scotland and the world can best support care experienced people to flourish.”
Care Day 20 asked people around the world to: shift public attitudes on care experienced people’s lives; bring together the care experienced community with their allies and corporate parents to talk about how care experienced people are assured of the love, rights and relationships they deserve.
The day also aimed to motivate the care experienced community, their allies and corporate parents to share their celebrations, show their commitments and ignite discussion about care.
Chief executive of South Lanarkshire Council, Cleland Sneddon, was enthusiastic about the day.
He said: “We recently launched our Champions Board approach to ensure the care experienced voice is at the heart of everything we do.
“On Care Day 20, some of our care experienced family had lunch with their corporate parents to build relationships and share experiences, and we had the first ever Care Day flag flying proudly outside our offices.
“As the Champions Board grows over 2020, we hope that every care experienced person realises the power of their voice and helps to ensure South Lanarkshire is the best place to grow up.”
