Thank you messages are perfect medicine for NhS

NHS Lanarkshire has been praised by staff after letters were sent thanking them for all their hard work and dedication during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The heartfelt letters, addressed to the doctors’ and nurses’ children, popped through the letterboxes of several employees in a very welcome surprise.

One nurse, whose husband also works in Monklands Hospital, said she was “thrilled” to have received the wonderful words.

The letter was the idea of staff at University Hospital Monklands.

Part of the letter states: “Your mum and dad have to go to work when some other people don’t. This is because they are doing a really important job helping all of us at the hospital to look after people who are ill.

“We’re all working together to help get things back to normal as soon as we can. What your mum and dad are doing is really special.

“We’re proud of them and you should be too. You should also be proud of yourselves because you are helping them. We couldn’t do this without your mum and dad.

“So, we’re sending a big thank you to them and to you for sharing them with us.”

The kind-hearted letter concludes by asking the creative children if they could draw a picture to brighten up the hospital.

All of the pictures will be put up in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Kay Sandilands, NHS Lanarkshire’s director of human resources, said: “All staff have access to this briefing and could personalise the letter for their own children. “Feedback has shown the letter has been extremely well received by the staff.”
