Cambus fear over rugby player exits
Cambuslang Rugby Club coach Alex Donaghy is delighted that competitive action could return in October – but is worried about losing players to other sports.
Scottish Rugby say they hope full competitive action will resume in a few phases, but probably with regional or local leagues.
Donaghy says‘local’will be difficult to define for a club like his.
He said:“I’m absolutely delighted that they’re talking about getting back in October, over the moon.
“We didn’t know if it was going to be before Christmas, or later, but I think we will lose a lot of players because it has been so long and guys will take up golf, bowls or a bit of tennis.
“I’m enjoying my time off, and rugby is a hobby, so it’s about trying to keep them amused.
“Also, what do you class as‘local’, unless they aren’t competitive leagues and you take teams like Uddingston from other leagues. Maybe this year should be another null and void with regional cups or competitions.”
