TARGET MAN FOR RETURN

New role in McNab second spell

- MARK PIRIE

Returning star Derek McNab is hoping to fire Glencairn to a top West of Scotland League debut as he looks set to be given his chance up front.

McNab will be familiar to the Celsius Stadium support for playing in defence or on the wing but hopes to be the main target man for the Glens next term.

After talks with boss Willie Harvey which assured him of an attacking role, he can’t wait to start scoring goals in his second spell at the club.

“Last time I was here I felt like I built up a good relationship with the staff and the manager,” he told the Reformer.

“I spoke to the manager and he was keen to give me my chance up front, which is where I see myself playing now.

“I was at Rossvale last season and Arthurlie before that, but nobody really gave me a chance to play up front.

“When I spoke to the manager and he said he wanted to make me his main striker, I though brilliant, lets go back.

“I want to be able to test myself and play against the highest standard, so I’m looking forward to getting that chance next season in the top division.

“The manager and the chance of playing up front were really key in my decision.”

McNab admits he had other offers on the table including from

Linlithgow Rose, but didn’t need sold on a return to the Glens ahead of their tier six debut.

He continued: “It wasn’t really a hard sell to bring me back.

“I know the club and know what they are about. I still know a lot of the players and staff.

“The idea of playing more attacking and with two up front really interested me and it’s close to home for me.

“Now I just want to get back training; I just can’t wait for the season to start.”
