Morrisons make special deliveries
Local supermarket helps spread some lockdown cheer
A Cambuslang superstore is bringing cheer to key workers, food bank volunteers and local people celebrating special birthdays and anniversaries.
Every week, Morrisons receives £1000 of food to distribute to the doorsteps of elderly and vulnerable people and those whose efforts during lockdown deserve recognition.
In addition, the supermarket’s community champion, Nicola O’Brien, is surprising people who are celebrating a milestone birthday by delivering balloons, cakes, cards and chocolates to their doorstep on their special day.
She has also made up care packages which are gratefully received by key workers.
Nicola explained: “Every week since March, Morrisons has a pallet of food delivered to go to local foodbanks. Also, our customers have been really kind with their donations.
“I have three foodbanks: Camglen Covid-19 at particip8 in Halfway; Carmyle foodbank; and St Bride’s Church.
“As part of the important role
Morrisons is playing within the local community, I have also being doing doorstep deliveries to our local elderly and vulnerable people, where they phone a number or me personally and place an order for anything they need and I deliver for free that day.
“I’ve also helped local places such as Millburn homes and St Bride’s Primary School with plants to help brighten the place up as well as doing some especial lockdown birthdays and care packages for local businesses as well as our police and firefighters.”
