Harvey blasts training decision

-

Fuming Glencairn boss Willie Harvey blasted the decision to pause training at lower league level due to breaches of Covid-19 rules by Premiership stars.

Harvey says that decision means they’ll be lucky to play four pre-season friendlies before the West of Scotland League kicks off at the start of October.

One of those is a two-legged charity clash with near-neighbours Cambuslang Rangers, which is usually staged during the Sectional League Cup.

And the gaffer is taking responsibility himself to train up and become the club’s

Covid-19 officer.

Harvey said:“We got back to training on Monday night.

“We had been training but they put us into a shut-down again for two weeks.

“We were all settling in and starting to enjoy it and then that shut-down came again.

“It was stop-start, it didn’t suit anybody, and it’s quite annoying when you think that the senior football causes the grief yet it’s the lower end that suffer. I feel we’re being made to pay for that.

“We had adhered to every guidance that was given to us, and what we’re putting in place is unbelievable.

“I’m actually having to do an online test to be a Covid officer at the club; until you’ve done that you can’t start playing football again.”

Harvey added:“There are a few friendlies we have in mind.

“We had ear-marked about six, but depending now on September and October, if they’re talking about the start of October before the league starts, we’ll be lucky to get four or five in – and more likely it will be four.”
