Rutherglen dog owners who want to keep active with their four-legged friends, with the added appeal of raising money to help patients facing cancer, are being urged to take part in the Beatson Cancer Charity’s new Paw Walk.

To show support for National Dog Week, which runs from September 21 to 27, Beatson Cancer Charity will celebrate and honour the loyalty and companionship of its canine supporters.

The charity is encouraging dog owners or sitters to take on a sponsored Paw Walk on a route of their choice.

Entry costs £6 and will include a branded pet bandana.

Owners are advised to book a place quickly, as the first 50 sign-ups will receive a goodie bag, courtesy of pet retailer and supplier, Creature Comforts.

The charity will also be on the lookout for the next official Beatson Ambassadog.

During their treatment struggled, many patients have expressed their love for their pet dogs, and their appreciation of how their pets can aid their health and wellbeing during their cancer journey.

For this event, supporters are asked to tag their favourite photos of their pet on the Paw Walk, dressed in official Beatson Cancer Charity apparel.

For dogs to look their ultimate best, the new range of Beatson tartan is now available and it includes must-have items for dogs.

Distinctive yellow and black tartan dog collars and leads, made by Paisley Textiles, are available to purchase online at shop. beatsoncancercharity. org

Charlene Low, corporate partnership fundraiser, said:“Since we had to cancel many of our events due to Covid-19, we wanted to find a fun way to fundraise whilst respecting the social distancing arrangements.

“Daily walks with my beagle Ditsy, have been hugely beneficial for me during lockdown and I know many of our patients feel the same, especially during treatment.

“We are all thrilled with our new dog tartan items so we think the Paw Walk is the perfect event and will be very popular, raising much needed funds for our charity.

“Our supporters go above and beyond for us, and we can’t wait to see the photos of them out and about in yellow .”
