Cambus rage over rugby plans

-

Cambuslang Rugby Club are up in arms over Scottish Rugby’s‘regionalised’West Competition plans and have complained to the governing body.

Coach Alex Donaghy says Cambus were assured they would be in Conference 2 alongside derby rivals Dalziel, Uddingston and Waysiders/ Drumpellier, plus Lenzie, but are instead in Conference 1 with Allan Glen’s, Clydebank, Oban Lorne and Strathendrick. Helensburgh are instead in Conference 2.

Donaghy says a search on Google

Maps tells him that’s an average of 90 minutes each way for their games. He fumed:“I’m not happy with it. “Our president was on the Zoom calls for this back in August, it was supposed to be localised games, they gave examples of league set-ups and what they were doing, and the next thing we were changed with Helensburgh.

“Instead of doing games with local Lanarkshire clubs we’ve got Strathendrick, Oban, Clydebank and Allan Glen’s, so we need to go past Helensburgh to get to Oban, and it’s

Helensburgh they’ve swapped us with?

“We want to know why they’ve changed the set-up, is it because one team has complained about it?

“If they’re complaining that they might struggle for a team, throw them out of the league then.

“A lot of our players are annoyed about this. It’s a good group, it’s local to us and that’s what Scottish Rugby want for health and safety matters, and now we’re about 80-90 minutes away each way in total for our games – it’s supposed to be localised.”
