New EP has ‘fierce, unapologetic’ tone

-

A Rutherglen musician has released her second EP in six months.

In April The Girl Who Cried Wolf, made up of Audrey Tait and her pal Lauren Gilmour, released Crazy Things, with the title track receiving airplay on BBC Radio Scotland.

Now the duo are back with another release, Out of It.

Comprising five tracks and available though Bandcamp, the collection presents some of the band’s biggest and boldest pop styles yet.

Audrey explained: “It’s a step in a new direction, with songs that are inspired by artists and producers we love. It has a fierce, unapologetic tone to it.

“We’ve found a total fire in the studio, despite the music industry feeling a bit bleak right now, and channelled this energy into an EP we’re really proud of.”

Audrey, who provides vocals, guitar and drums, as well as producing, said: The new EP has been inspired by hip hop artists like Run The Jewels and Santigold, as well as the big pop sound that Miley Cyrus is doing which we love.

“It wasn’t an active decision to change direction but we’ve been experimenting a lot in the studio and it’s spilled into our own writing and producing.

“I think the lack of live gigs has given us more creativity with the recording process as we’re not thinking too much about how to put it across on stage, although that’ll be fun when it eventually happens.”

Out of It is available exclusively through Bandcamp, with sales benefitting the band at a time when gig revenue has dried up.

Audrey added: “Bandcamp is the platform doing most for artists right now.

“We’ve been blown away by the response to both EPs and we’re really grateful to everyone who has bought our music and merchandise during the time. It really goes such a long way for us!”
