Leading light in education
At the helm of South Lanarkshire College is Aileen McKechnie.
SLC is the top performing college in Scotland and Aileen told the Reformer she is “privileged”to be its principal.
Previous roles included working for the Scottish Government for 20 years in a variety of roles, including three senior positions in tertiary education policy, most latterly as Director of Advanced Learning and Science.
It was here she was responsible for £3 billion of public funds to secure teaching, learning and good governance and to support research, innovation and science in our tertiary institutions and science centres.
Aileen also had sponsor responsibility for the
Scottish Funding Council; the Students Awards Agency for Scotland; and the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework Partnership.
She currently sits on a number of Colleges Scotland working groups and is a member of the inaugural Review of Quality Assurance in Education and Training Boards in Ireland.
She is keen to promote the college and the region at national level, showcasing its expertise across Scotland and supporting the UK Four Nations College Alliance.
Aileen is a graduate from Glasgow University, where she secured an MA (Honours) in French and German and Business Admin.
She is married with two teenage sons.
